Early data from 13 "extreme trans-Neptunian objects" (ETNO's) suggests that they may exist but in an unexpected orbit which could account for their evasiveness. If so, it may lead to even more discoveries within our own solar system.
As stands to reason, not only do the instruments need to be made for detecting the right stuff to see it but they must also be looking in the right place.
